Buster Merryfield, born George Frederick Merryfield (27 January 1920 – 23 June 1999), was a British actor best known for playing Uncle Albert in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.
Early Life and Career: Before becoming a full-time actor, Merryfield worked in various manual jobs, including as a telegram boy and a bank messenger. He served in the Second World War, during which he was captured and held as a prisoner of war. His experiences as a POW profoundly affected him. He had an extensive amateur acting career before turning professional.
Only Fools and Horses: Merryfield joined Only Fools and Horses in 1985, replacing Lennard Pearce after his death.
